# Line search

Optimizing the objective along a line: $LaTeX: \mbox{opt} \{ f(x + \alpha \, d): s \ge 0\}$, where $LaTeX: x$ is a given point and $LaTeX: d$ is a given direction vector ($LaTeX: \alpha$ is a scalar). A coarse tolerance could be used, so "Opt" is not entirely accurate. (In fact, there are reasons to believe not optimizing is best.)
