To determine what mix of products to make from shared resources. For example, if a company has apples and cranberries, one could make a certain amount of apple juice, cranberry juice, cranapple juice, and applecran juice, each differing in the percentages of apples and cranberries. More extensive examples abound to illustrate one of the early, fundamental applications of linear programming.
